(一〇) 16. Teaching Liberation
如是我聞: Thus I have heard:
一時,佛住舍衞國,祇樹,給孤獨園。 One time, the Buddha was staying at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.
爾時,世尊告諸比丘: It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks,
「色無常。 “Form is impermanent.
無常即苦,苦即非我,非我者即非我所。 What’s impermanent is painful, what’s painful is not self, and what’s not self doesn’t belong to self.
如是觀者名眞實正觀。 Such observation is called true and correct observation.
如是,受⋯想⋯行⋯識無常。 Thus, feeling … perception … volition … consciousness is impermanent.
無常即苦,苦即非我,非我者即非我所。 What’s impermanent is painful, what’s painful is not self, and what’s not self doesn’t belong to self.
如是觀者名眞實正觀。 Such observation is called true and correct observation.
「聖弟子如是觀者於色解脱,於受⋯想⋯行⋯識解脱。 “Noble disciples who thus observe are liberated from form and liberated from sensation … perception … volition … consciousness.
我説是等解脱於生、老、病、死、憂、悲、苦、惱。」 I say that this is complete liberation from birth, old age, illness, death, grief, sorrow, pain, and vexation.”
時,諸比丘聞佛所説歡喜,奉行。 When the monks heard what the Buddha taught, they rejoiced and approved.
