(一六二) 64-66.
如是我聞。 Thus have I heard:
一時佛住舍衞國祇樹給孤獨園。 One time, the Buddha stayed at Anāthapiṇḍada Park in Jeta Grove in Śrāvastī.
爾時世尊告諸比丘。 It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks,
何所有故。何所起。何所繋著。何所見我。令諸衆生作如是見如是説。 “What is it that exists, that arises, that ties, that’s an attachment, and that’s viewed as self and causes sentient beings to create such views and such statements?
作教作斷教斷煮教煮殺教殺 ‘Acting and instructing [others] to act, cutting and instructing [others] to cut, boiling and instructing [others] to boil, and killing and instructing [others] to kill;
害衆生。盜他財。行邪婬。知言妄語飮酒。 harming sentient beings, stealing other’s property, committing sexual misconduct, knowingly speaking falsehoods, and drinking alcohol;
穿牆斷鏁偸奪。 penetrating walls, cutting chains, and stealing;
復道害村害城害人民。以極利劍。輪剬割斫截作大肉聚。作如是學。 even going down the roads to harm villages, harm cities, and harm the populace with a wheel of the sharpest blades that slices, dices, and chops them up into a great pile of flesh, they form such a theory:
彼非惡因縁。亦非招惡。 “That is not a cause or condition for evil, and it doesn’t bring evil.
於恒水南殺害而去。恒水北作大會而來。彼非因縁福惡。亦非招福惡。 [If someone were] to kill and injure [people] south of the Gaṅgā River and make a great congregation to the north of the Gaṅgā River, those wouldn’t be causes or conditions for good and evil, nor would they bring good and evil.
惠施調伏護持行利同利。於此所作亦非作福。 Doing things like bestowing gifts, training, maintaining [scriptures], performing blessings, and cooperating doesn’t create merits, either.”’”
諸比丘白佛。 The monks said to the Buddha,
世尊是法根法眼法依。 “The Bhagavān is the Dharma root, the Dharma eye, and the Dharma refuge …”
如是廣説。次第如上三經 It’s thus explained in detail and in the sequence of the three sutras (35.7-9) above.
