雜阿含經 Related Discourses 13

(七八四) 74.

如是我聞。 Thus I have heard:

一時佛住舍衞國祇樹給孤獨園。 One time, the Buddha stayed at Anāthapiṇḍada’s Park in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī.

爾時世尊告諸比丘。 It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks,

有邪有正。 “There’s wrong, and there’s right.

諦聽善思。 Listen closely and well consider it.

當爲汝説。 I will explain this for you.

何等爲邪。 “What’s wrong?

謂邪見乃至邪定。 This refers to wrong view … wrong concentration.

何等爲正。 What’s right?

謂正見乃至正定。 This refers to right view … right concentration.

何等爲正見。 “What’s right view?

謂説有施有説有齋。有善行有惡行。有善惡行果報。 It’s refers to the teaching that there’s generosity, there’s the teaching, there are observances, there’s good conduct and bad conduct, and there are the results of good and bad conduct.

有此世有他世。有父母有衆生生。 There’s this world, and there’s the other world.

有阿羅漢善到善向。有此世他世。自知作證具足住。 There’s father and mother and the birth of sentient beings.

我生已盡。梵行已立。所作已作。自知不受後有。 There are arhats who well arrive, are well-headed, and know and realize for themselves the perfect abode, whether it’s in this or the other world:

何等爲正志。 “What’s right intention?

謂出要志。無恚志。不害志。 It’s intent of renunciation, intent without anger, and intent that’s not harmful.

何等爲正語。 “What’s right speech?

謂離妄語。離兩舌。離惡口。離綺語。 It’s being free of false speech, free of duplicity, free of harsh words, and free of fancy speech.

何等爲正業。 “What’s right action?

謂離殺・盜・婬。 It’s being free of killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct.

何等爲正命。 “What’s right livelihood?

謂如法求衣服・飮食・臥具・湯藥。非不如法。 It’s pursuing clothing, food and drink, bedding, and medicine in ways that are according to the teaching and not contrary to the teaching.

何等爲正方便。 “What’s right method?

謂欲精進。方便出離。勤競堪能。常行不退。 It’s desire, effort, method, setting out, striving, and the capability to work constantly and not retreat.

何等爲正念。 “What’s right mindfulness?

謂念隨順。念不妄不虚。 It’s mindfully following and remembering that’s not false or pointless.

何等爲正定。 “What’s right concentration?

謂住心不亂。堅固攝持。寂止三昧一心。 It’s abiding with mind unconfused, resolute, collected, tranquil, concentrated, and single-minded.”

佛説此經已。諸比丘聞佛所説。歡喜奉行 After the Buddha taught this sūtra, the monks who heard what he taught rejoiced and approved.
