Bahukārasutta Very Helpful

ā€œTayome, bhikkhave, puggalā puggalassa bahukārā. ā€œMendicants, these three people are very helpful to another.

Katame tayo? What three?

Yaį¹, bhikkhave, puggalaį¹ āgamma puggalo buddhaį¹ saraį¹‡aį¹ gato hoti, dhammaį¹ saraį¹‡aį¹ gato hoti, saį¹…ghaį¹ saraį¹‡aį¹ gato hoti; The person who has enabled you to go for refuge to the Buddha, the teaching, and the Saį¹…gha.

ayaį¹, bhikkhave, puggalo imassa puggalassa bahukāro. This person is very helpful to another.

Puna caparaį¹, bhikkhave, yaį¹ puggalaį¹ āgamma puggalo ā€˜idaį¹ dukkhanā€™ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhasamudayoā€™ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhoā€™ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti, ā€˜ayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadāā€™ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti; Furthermore, the person who has enabled you to truly understand: ā€˜This is sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the origin of sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the cessation of sufferingā€™ ā€¦ ā€˜This is the practice that leads to the cessation of sufferingā€™.

ayaį¹, bhikkhave, puggalo imassa puggalassa bahukāro. This person is very helpful to another.

Puna caparaį¹, bhikkhave, yaį¹ puggalaį¹ āgamma puggalo āsavānaį¹ khayā anāsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱāvimuttiį¹ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharati; Furthermore, the person who has enabled you to realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with your own insight due to the ending of defilements.

ayaį¹, bhikkhave, puggalo imassa puggalassa bahukāro. This person is very helpful to another.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo puggalā puggalassa bahukārā. These are the three people who are very helpful to another person.

Imehi ca pana, bhikkhave, tīhi puggalehi imassa puggalassa natthaƱƱo puggalo bahukāroti vadāmi. And I say that there is no-one more helpful to another than these three people.

Imesaį¹ pana, bhikkhave, tiį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ puggalānaį¹ iminā puggalena na suppatikāraį¹ vadāmi, yadidaį¹ abhivādanapaccuį¹­į¹­hānaaƱjalikammasāmÄ«cikammacÄ«varapiį¹‡įøapātasenāsanagilānapaccayabhesajjaparikkhārānuppadānenāā€ti. And I also say that itā€™s not easy to repay these three people by bowing down to them, rising up for them, greeting them with joined palms, and observing proper etiquette for them; or by providing them with robes, almsfood, lodgings, and medicines and supplies for the sick.ā€
