GÅ«thabhÄį¹Ä«sutta Speech like Dung
āTayome, bhikkhave, puggalÄ santo saį¹vijjamÄnÄ lokasmiį¹. āThese three people are found in the world.
Katame tayo? What three?
GÅ«thabhÄį¹Ä«, pupphabhÄį¹Ä«, madhubhÄį¹Ä«. One with speech like dung, one with speech like flowers, and one with speech like honey.
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, puggalo gÅ«thabhÄį¹Ä«? And who has speech like dung?
Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco puggalo sabhaggato vÄ parisaggato vÄ Ć±Ätimajjhagato vÄ pÅ«gamajjhagato vÄ rÄjakulamajjhagato vÄ abhinÄ«to sakkhipuį¹į¹ho: āehambho purisa, yaį¹ jÄnÄsi taį¹ vadehÄ«āti. So ajÄnaį¹ vÄ Äha: ājÄnÄmÄ«āti, jÄnaį¹ vÄ Äha: āna jÄnÄmÄ«āti, apassaį¹ vÄ Äha: āpassÄmÄ«āti, passaį¹ vÄ Äha: āna passÄmÄ«āti; iti attahetu vÄ parahetu vÄ ÄmisakiƱcikkhahetu vÄ sampajÄnamusÄ bhÄsitÄ hoti. Itās a person who is summoned to a council, an assembly, a family meeting, a guild, or to the royal court, and asked to bear witness: āPlease, worthy man, say what you know.ā Not knowing, they say āI know.ā Knowing, they say āI donāt know.ā Not seeing, they say āI see.ā And seeing, they say āI donāt see.ā So they deliberately lie for the sake of themselves or another, or for some trivial worldly reason.

yÄ sÄ vÄcÄ nelÄ kaį¹į¹asukhÄ pemanÄ«yÄ hadayaį¹
gamÄ porÄ« bahujanakantÄ bahujanamanÄpÄ tathÄrÅ«piį¹ vÄcaį¹ bhÄsitÄ hoti. They speak in a way thatās mellow, pleasing to the ear, lovely, going to the heart, polite, likable and agreeable to the people.
