Tiį¹hÄnasutta Instances Three Grounds
āTÄ«hi, bhikkhave, į¹hÄnehi saddho pasanno veditabbo. āIn these three instances, monks, one can be recognized as a person of conviction & confidence. āThere are three grounds, mendicants, by which a person with faith and confidence can be known.
Katamehi tīhi? Which three? What three?
SÄ«lavantÄnaį¹ dassanakÄmo hoti, saddhammaį¹ sotukÄmo hoti, vigatamalamaccherena cetasÄ agÄraį¹ ajjhÄvasati muttacÄgo payatapÄį¹i vossaggarato yÄcayogo dÄnasaį¹vibhÄgarato. One wants to see virtuous people. One wants to hear the True Dhamma. Oneās awareness cleansed of the stain of stinginess, one lives at home, freely generous, openhanded, delighting in being magnanimous, responsive to requests, delighting in the distribution of alms. They like to see ethical people. They like to hear the true teaching. And they live at home with heart rid of the stain of stinginess, freely generous, open-handed, loving to let go, committed to charity, loving to give and to share.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«hi į¹hÄnehi saddho pasanno veditabbo. In these three instances, monks, one can be recognized as a person of conviction & confidence.ā These are the three grounds by which a person with faith and confidence can be known.
DassanakÄmo sÄ«lavataį¹, One who wants to see virtuous ones, They like to see ethical people;
saddhammaį¹ sotumicchati; & wants to hear the True Dhamma they want to hear the true teaching;
Vinaye maccheramalaį¹, āhaving subdued the stain of stinginessā theyāve driven out the stain of stinginess:
sa ve saddhoti vuccatÄ«āti. is said to have conviction. thatās whoās called an individual of faith.ā
