10. Loį¹‡akapallavagga 10. A Lump of Salt

Saradasutta Autumn

ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, saradasamaye viddhe vigatavalāhake deve ādicco nabhaį¹ abbhussakkamāno sabbaį¹ ākāsagataį¹ tamagataį¹ abhivihacca bhāsate ca tapate ca virocati ca. ā€œIn the autumn, the heavens are clear and cloudless. And as the sun is rising to the firmament, having dispelled all the darkness of space, it shines and glows and radiates.

Evamevaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, yato ariyasāvakassa virajaį¹ vÄ«tamalaį¹ dhammacakkhuį¹ uppajjati, saha dassanuppādā, bhikkhave, ariyasāvakassa tÄ«į¹‡i saį¹yojanāni pahÄ«yantiā€”In the same way, when the stainless, immaculate vision of the teaching arises in a noble disciple, three fetters are given up:

sakkāyadiį¹­į¹­hi, vicikicchā, sÄ«labbataparāmāso. substantialist view, doubt, and misapprehension of precepts and observances.

Athāparaį¹ dvÄ«hi dhammehi niyyāti abhijjhāya ca byāpādena ca. Afterwards they get rid of two things: covetousness and ill will.

So vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaį¹ savicāraį¹ vivekajaį¹ pÄ«tisukhaį¹ paį¹­hamaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. Quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, they enter and remain in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected.

TasmiƱce, bhikkhave, samaye ariyasāvako kālaį¹ kareyya, natthi taį¹ saį¹yojanaį¹ yena saį¹yojanena saį¹yutto ariyasāvako puna imaį¹ lokaį¹ āgaccheyyāā€ti. If that noble disciple passed away at that time, theyā€™re bound by no fetter that might return them to this world.ā€
