Paį¹­hamaassādasutta Gratification (1st)

ā€œLokassāhaį¹, bhikkhave, assādapariyesanaį¹ acariį¹. Yo loke assādo tadajjhagamaį¹. ā€œMendicants, I went in search of the worldā€™s gratification, and I found it.

Yāvatako loke assādo, paƱƱāya me so sudiį¹­į¹­ho. Iā€™ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of gratification in the world.

Lokassāhaį¹, bhikkhave, ādÄ«navapariyesanaį¹ acariį¹. Yo loke ādÄ«navo tadajjhagamaį¹. I went in search of the worldā€™s drawbacks, and I found them.

Yāvatako loke ādÄ«navo, paƱƱāya me so sudiį¹­į¹­ho. Iā€™ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of the drawbacks in the world.

Lokassāhaį¹, bhikkhave, nissaraį¹‡apariyesanaį¹ acariį¹. Yaį¹ loke nissaraį¹‡aį¹ tadajjhagamaį¹. I went in search of escape from the world, and I found it.

Yāvatakaį¹ loke nissaraį¹‡aį¹, paƱƱāya me taį¹ sudiį¹­į¹­haį¹. Iā€™ve seen clearly with wisdom the full extent of escape from the world.

YāvakÄ«vaƱcāhaį¹, bhikkhave, lokassa assādaƱca assādato ādÄ«navaƱca ādÄ«navato nissaraį¹‡aƱca nissaraį¹‡ato yathābhÅ«taį¹ nābbhaƱƱāsiį¹, neva tāvāhaį¹, bhikkhave, sadevake loke samārake sabrahmake sassamaį¹‡abrāhmaį¹‡iyā pajāya sadevamanussāya ā€˜anuttaraį¹ sammāsambodhiį¹ abhisambuddhoā€™ti paccaƱƱāsiį¹. As long as I didnā€™t truly understand the worldā€™s gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, I didnā€™t announce my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.

Yato ca khvāhaį¹, bhikkhave, lokassa assādaƱca assādato ādÄ«navaƱca ādÄ«navato nissaraį¹‡aƱca nissaraį¹‡ato yathābhÅ«taį¹ abbhaƱƱāsiį¹, athāhaį¹, bhikkhave, sadevake loke samārake sabrahmake sassamaį¹‡abrāhmaį¹‡iyā pajāya sadevamanussāya ā€˜anuttaraį¹ sammāsambodhiį¹ abhisambuddhoā€™ti paccaƱƱāsiį¹. But when I did truly understand the worldā€™s gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, I announced my supreme perfect awakening in this world with its gods, Māras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans.

Ƒāį¹‡aƱca pana me dassanaį¹ udapādi: Knowledge and vision arose in me:

ā€˜akuppā me vimutti, ayamantimā jāti, natthi dāni punabbhavoā€™ā€ti. ā€˜My freedom is unshakable; this is my last rebirth; now thereā€™ll be no more future lives.ā€™ā€
