āTÄ«į¹imÄni, bhikkhave, soceyyÄni. āMendicants, there are these three kinds of purity.
KatamÄni tÄ«į¹i? What three?
KÄyasoceyyaį¹, vacÄ«soceyyaį¹, manosoceyyaį¹. Purity of body, speech, and mind.
KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kÄyasoceyyaį¹? And what is purity of body?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu pÄį¹ÄtipÄtÄ paį¹ivirato hoti, adinnÄdÄnÄ paį¹ivirato hoti, abrahmacariyÄ paį¹ivirato hoti. Itās when a mendicant doesnāt kill living creatures, steal, or have sex.
Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kÄyasoceyyaį¹. This is called āpurity of bodyā.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu musÄvÄdÄ paį¹ivirato hoti, pisuį¹Äya vÄcÄya paį¹ivirato hoti, pharusÄya vÄcÄya paį¹ivirato hoti, samphappalÄpÄ paį¹ivirato hoti. Itās when a mendicant doesnāt use speech thatās false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical.
Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, vacÄ«soceyyaį¹. This is called āpurity of speechā.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu santaį¹ vÄ ajjhattaį¹ kÄmacchandaį¹: āatthi me ajjhattaį¹ kÄmacchandoāti pajÄnÄti; asantaį¹ vÄ ajjhattaį¹ kÄmacchandaį¹: ānatthi me ajjhattaį¹ kÄmacchandoāti pajÄnÄti; yathÄ ca anuppannassa kÄmacchandassa uppÄdo hoti, taƱca pajÄnÄti; yathÄ ca uppannassa kÄmacchandassa pahÄnaį¹ hoti, taƱca pajÄnÄti; yathÄ ca pahÄ«nassa kÄmacchandassa Äyatiį¹ anuppÄdo hoti, taƱca pajÄnÄti; Itās when a mendicant who has sensual desire in them understands āI have sensual desire in me.ā When they donāt have sensual desire in them, they understand āI donāt have sensual desire in me.ā They understand how sensual desire arises; how, when itās already arisen, itās given up; and how, once itās given up, it doesnāt arise again in the future.

They understand how dullness and drowsiness arise; how, when theyāve already arisen, theyāre given up; and how, once theyāre given up, they donāt arise again in the future.

They understand how restlessness and remorse arise; how, when theyāve already arisen, theyāre given up; and how, once theyāre given up, they donāt arise again in the future.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, manosoceyyaį¹. This is called āpurity of mindā.
ImÄni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹i soceyyÄnÄ«ti. These are the three kinds of purity.
KÄyasuciį¹ vacÄ«suciį¹, Purity of body, purity of speech,
cetosuciį¹ anÄsavaį¹; and undefiled purity of heart.
Suciį¹ soceyyasampannaį¹, A pure person, blessed with purity,
Ähu ninhÄtapÄpakanāti. has washed off all bad things, they say.ā
