Moneyyasutta Sagacity

ā€œTÄ«į¹‡imāni, bhikkhave, moneyyāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these three kinds of sagacity.

Katamāni tÄ«į¹‡i? What three?

Kāyamoneyyaį¹, vacÄ«moneyyaį¹, manomoneyyaį¹. Sagacity of body, speech, and mind.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kāyamoneyyaį¹? And what is sagacity of body?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu pāį¹‡Ätipātā paį¹­ivirato hoti, adinnādānā paį¹­ivirato hoti, abrahmacariyā paį¹­ivirato hoti. Itā€™s when a mendicant doesnā€™t kill living creatures, steal, or have sex.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kāyamoneyyaį¹. This is called ā€˜sagacity of bodyā€™.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, vacÄ«moneyyaį¹? And what is sagacity of speech?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu musāvādā paį¹­ivirato hoti, pisuį¹‡Äya vācāya paį¹­ivirato hoti, pharusāya vācāya paį¹­ivirato hoti, samphappalāpā paį¹­ivirato hoti. Itā€™s when a mendicant doesnā€™t use speech thatā€™s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, vacÄ«moneyyaį¹. This is called ā€˜sagacity of speechā€™.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, manomoneyyaį¹? And what is sagacity of mind?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu āsavānaį¹ khayā anāsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱāvimuttiį¹ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharati. Itā€™s when a mendicant realizes the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And they live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, manomoneyyaį¹. This is called ā€˜sagacity of mindā€™.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹‡i moneyyānÄ«ti. These are the three kinds of sagacity.

Kāyamuniį¹ vacÄ«muniį¹, A sage in body, a sage in speech,

cetomuniį¹ anāsavaį¹; a sage undefiled in heart;

Muniį¹ moneyyasampannaį¹, a sage, blessed with sagacity,

āhu sabbappahāyinanā€ti. has given up everything, they say.ā€

Dasamaį¹.

Āpāyikavaggo dutiyo.

Tassuddānaį¹

Āpāyiko dullabho appameyyaį¹,

ĀneƱjavipattisampadā;

Apaį¹‡į¹‡ako ca kammanto,

Dve soceyyāni moneyyanti.
