Carasutta Walking

ā€œCarato cepi, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno uppajjati kāmavitakko vā byāpādavitakko vā vihiį¹sāvitakko vā. ā€œMendicants, suppose a mendicant has a sensual, malicious, or cruel thought while walking.

TaƱce bhikkhu adhivāseti, nappajahati na vinodeti na byantÄ«karoti na anabhāvaį¹ gameti, They tolerate it and donā€™t give it up, get rid of it, eliminate it, and obliterate it.

carampi, bhikkhave, bhikkhu evaį¹bhÅ«to ā€˜anātāpÄ« anottāpÄ« satataį¹ samitaį¹ kusÄ«to hÄ«navÄ«riyoā€™ti vuccati. Such a mendicant is said to be ā€˜not keen or prudent, always lazy, and lacking energyā€™ when walking.

Caraį¹ vā yadi vā tiį¹­į¹­haį¹, Whether walking or standing,

nisinno uda vā sayaį¹; sitting or lying down,

Yo vitakkaį¹ vitakketi, if you think a bad thought

pāpakaį¹ gehanissitaį¹. to do with the domestic life,

Kummaggappaį¹­ipanno so, youā€™re on the wrong path,

Mohaneyyesu mucchito; lost among things that delude.

Abhabbo tādiso bhikkhu, Such a mendicant is incapable

Phuį¹­į¹­huį¹ sambodhimuttamaį¹. of experiencing the highest awakening.

Yo ca caraį¹ vā tiį¹­į¹­haį¹ vā, But one who, whether standing or walking,

Nisinno uda vā sayaį¹; sitting or lying down,

Vitakkaį¹ samayitvāna, has calmed their thoughts,

Vitakkūpasame rato; loving peace of mind;

Bhabbo so tādiso bhikkhu, such a mendicant is capable

Phuį¹­į¹­huį¹ sambodhimuttamanā€ti. of experiencing the highest awakening.ā€
