PaƱƱattisutta Regarded as Foremost
āCatasso imÄ, bhikkhave, aggapaƱƱattiyo. āMendicants, these four are regarded as foremost.
KatamÄ catasso? What four?
Etadaggaį¹, bhikkhave, attabhÄvÄ«naį¹ yadidaį¹āThe foremost in size of incarnation is
rÄhu asurindo. RÄhu, lord of titans.
Etadaggaį¹, bhikkhave, kÄmabhogÄ«naį¹ yadidaį¹āThe foremost pleasure seeker is
rÄjÄ mandhÄtÄ. King MandhÄtÄ.
Etadaggaį¹, bhikkhave, ÄdhipateyyÄnaį¹ yadidaį¹āThe foremost in sovereignty is
mÄro pÄpimÄ. MÄra the Wicked.
Sadevake, bhikkhave, loke samÄrake sabrahmake sassamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹iyÄ pajÄya sadevamanussÄya tathÄgato aggamakkhÄyati arahaį¹ sammÄsambuddho. In this worldāwith its gods, MÄras, and divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humansāa Realized One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha is said to be the best.
ImÄ kho, bhikkhave, catasso aggapaƱƱattiyoti. These are the four regarded as foremost.
RÄhuggaį¹ attabhÄvÄ«naį¹, RÄhu is foremost in size of incarnation,
mandhÄtÄ kÄmabhoginaį¹; MandhÄtÄ in enjoying sensual pleasures,
MÄro ÄdhipateyyÄnaį¹, MÄra in sovereignty,
iddhiyÄ yasasÄ jalaį¹. shining with power and glory.
Uddhaį¹ tiriyaį¹ apÄcÄ«naį¹, Above, below, all round,
yÄvatÄjagatogati; as far as the earth extends;
Sadevakassa lokassa, in all the world with its gods,
buddho aggo pavuccatÄ«āti. the Buddha is declared foremost.ā
