Lokasutta The World
āLoko, bhikkhave, tathÄgatena abhisambuddho. āMendicants, the world has been understood by the Realized One;
LokasmÄ tathÄgato visaį¹yutto. and he is detached from the world.
Lokasamudayo, bhikkhave, tathÄgatena abhisambuddho. The origin of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
Lokasamudayo tathÄgatassa pahÄ«no. and he has given up the origin of the world.
Lokanirodho, bhikkhave, tathÄgatena abhisambuddho. The cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
Lokanirodho tathÄgatassa sacchikato. and he has realized the cessation of the world.
LokanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄ, bhikkhave, tathÄgatena abhisambuddhÄ. The practice that leads to the cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
LokanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄ tathÄgatassa bhÄvitÄ. and he has developed the practice that leads to the cessation of the world.
Yaį¹, bhikkhave, sadevakassa lokassa samÄrakassa sabrahmakassa sassamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹iyÄ pajÄya sadevamanussÄya diį¹į¹haį¹ sutaį¹ mutaį¹ viƱƱÄtaį¹ pattaį¹ pariyesitaį¹ anuvicaritaį¹ manasÄ, sabbaį¹ taį¹ tathÄgatena abhisambuddhaį¹. In this worldāwith its gods, MÄras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humansāwhatever is seen, heard, thought, known, attained, sought, and explored by the mind, all that has been understood by the Realized One.
TasmÄ ātathÄgatoāti vuccati. Thatās why heās called the āRealized Oneā.
YaƱca, bhikkhave, rattiį¹ tathÄgato anuttaraį¹ sammÄsambodhiį¹ abhisambujjhati yaƱca rattiį¹ anupÄdisesÄya nibbÄnadhÄtuyÄ parinibbÄyati, yaį¹ etasmiį¹ antare bhÄsati lapati niddisati sabbaį¹ taį¹ tatheva hoti, no aƱƱathÄ. From the night when the Realized One understands the supreme perfect awakening until the night he becomes fully extinguishedāin the element of extinguishment with no residueāeverything he speaks, says, and expresses is real, not otherwise.
TasmÄ ātathÄgatoāti vuccati. Thatās why heās called the āRealized Oneā.
YathÄvÄdÄ«, bhikkhave, tathÄgato tathÄkÄrÄ«, yathÄkÄrÄ« tathÄvÄdÄ«. The Realized One does as he says, and says as he does.
Iti yathÄvÄdÄ« tathÄkÄrÄ«, yathÄkÄrÄ« tathÄvÄdÄ«. Since this is so,
TasmÄ ātathÄgatoāti vuccati. thatās why heās called the āRealized Oneā.
Sadevake, bhikkhave, loke samÄrake sabrahmake sassamaį¹abrÄhmaį¹iyÄ pajÄya sadevamanussÄya tathÄgato abhibhÅ« anabhibhÅ«to aƱƱadatthu daso vasavattÄ«. In this worldāwith its gods, MÄras, and divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humansāthe Realized One is the vanquisher, the unvanquished, the universal seer, the wielder of power.
TasmÄ ātathÄgatoāti vuccati. Thatās why heās called the āRealized Oneā.
Sabbaį¹ lokaį¹ abhiƱƱÄya, Directly knowing the whole world as it is,
sabbaį¹ loke yathÄtathaį¹; and everything in it,
Sabbaį¹ lokaį¹ visaį¹yutto, he is detached from the whole world,
sabbaloke anūpayo. disengaged from the whole world.
Sa ve sabbÄbhibhÅ« dhÄ«ro, That attentive one is the champion
sabbaganthappamocano; who is released from all ties.
Phuį¹į¹haāssa paramÄ santi, He has reached ultimate peace:
nibbÄnaį¹ akutobhayaį¹. extinguishment, fearing nothing from any quarter.
Esa khÄ«į¹Äsavo buddho, He is the Buddha, with defilements ended,
anÄ«gho chinnasaį¹sayo; untroubled, with doubts cut off.
Sabbakammakkhayaį¹ patto, He has attained the end of all deeds,
vimutto upadhisaį¹
khaye. freed with the end of attachments.
Esa so bhagavÄ buddho, That Blessed One is the Buddha,
esa sīho anuttaro; he is the supreme lion,
Sadevakassa lokassa, in all the world with its gods,
brahmacakkaį¹ pavattayÄ«. he turns the divine wheel.
Iti devÄ manussÄ ca, And so those gods and humans,
ye buddhaį¹ saraį¹aį¹ gatÄ; who have gone to the Buddha for refuge,
Saį¹
gamma taį¹ namassanti, come together and revere him,
mahantaį¹ vÄ«tasÄradaį¹. great of heart and intrepid:
Danto damayataį¹ seį¹į¹ho, āTamed, he is the best of tamers,
santo samayataį¹ isi; peaceful, he is the seer among the peaceful,
Mutto mocayataį¹ aggo, liberated, he is the foremost of liberators,
tiį¹į¹o tÄrayataį¹ varo. crossed over, he is the most excellent of guides across.ā
Iti hetaį¹ namassanti, And so they revere him,
mahantaį¹ vÄ«tasÄradaį¹; great of heart and intrepid.
Sadevakasmiį¹ lokasmiį¹, In the world with its gods,
natthi me paį¹ipuggaloāti. he has no rival.ā
