21. Sappurisavagga 21. A True Person

Sattakammasutta Seven Kinds of Deeds

ā€œAsappurisaƱca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, asappurisena asappurisataraƱca; ā€œMendicants, I will teach you an untrue person and an even more untrue person,

sappurisaƱca, sappurisena sappurisataraƱca. Taį¹ suį¹‡Ätha ā€¦peā€¦. a true person and a truer person.

ā€œKatamo ca, bhikkhave, asappuriso? And what is an untrue person?

Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco pāį¹‡ÄtipātÄ« hoti, adinnādāyÄ« hoti, kāmesumicchācārÄ« hoti, musāvādÄ« hoti, pisuį¹‡avāco hoti, pharusavāco hoti, samphappalāpÄ« hoti. Itā€™s someone who kills living creatures, steals, commits sexual misconduct, and uses speech thatā€™s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical.

Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, asappuriso. This is called an untrue person.

Katamo ca, bhikkhave, asappurisena asappurisataro? And what is an even more untrue person?

Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco attanā ca pāį¹‡ÄtipātÄ« hoti, paraƱca pāį¹‡Ätipāte samādapeti; Itā€™s someone who kills living creatures, steals, commits sexual misconduct, and uses speech thatā€™s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. And they encourage others to do these things.

attanā ca adinnādāyī hoti, paraƱca adinnādāne samādapeti;

attanā ca kāmesumicchācārī hoti, paraƱca kāmesumicchācāre samādapeti;

attanā ca musāvādī hoti, paraƱca musāvāde samādapeti;

attanā ca pisuį¹‡avāco hoti, paraƱca pisuį¹‡Äya vācāya samādapeti;

attanā ca pharusavāco hoti, paraƱca pharusāya vācāya samādapeti;

attanā ca samphappalāpī hoti, paraƱca samphappalāpe samādapeti.

Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, asappurisena asappurisataro. This is called an even more untrue person.
