Atha kho sikhÄmoggallÄno brÄhmaį¹o yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹
kami; upasaį¹
kamitvÄ bhagavatÄ saddhiį¹ sammodi. Then SikhÄmoggallÄna the brahmin went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him.
SammodanÄ«yaį¹ kathaį¹ sÄraį¹Ä«yaį¹ vÄ«tisÄretvÄ ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho sikhÄmoggallÄno brÄhmaį¹o bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: When the greetings and polite conversation were over, SikhÄmoggallÄna sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha:
āPurimÄni, bho gotama, divasÄni purimatarÄni soį¹akÄyano mÄį¹avo yenÄhaį¹ tenupasaį¹
kami; upasaį¹
kamitvÄ maį¹ etadavoca: āWorthy Gotama, a few days ago the student Soį¹akÄyana came to me and said:
āsamaį¹o gotamo sabbakammÄnaį¹ akiriyaį¹ paƱƱapeti, sabbakammÄnaį¹ kho pana akiriyaį¹ paƱƱapento ucchedaį¹ Äha lokassaāāāThe ascetic Gotama advocates not doing any deeds. So he teaches the annihilation of the world!ā
kammasaccÄyaį¹, bho, loko kammasamÄrambhaį¹į¹hÄyÄ«āti. The world exists through deeds, and it remains because deeds are undertaken.ā
āDassanampi kho ahaį¹, brÄhmaį¹a, soį¹akÄyanassa mÄį¹avassa nÄbhijÄnÄmi; āBrahmin, I canāt recall even seeing the student Soį¹akÄyana,

CattÄrimÄni, brÄhmaį¹a, kammÄni mayÄ sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ paveditÄni. I declare these four kinds of deeds, having realized them with my own insight.

Atthi, brÄhmaį¹a, kammaį¹ kaį¹haį¹ kaį¹havipÄkaį¹; There are dark deeds with dark results;
atthi, brÄhmaį¹a, kammaį¹ sukkaį¹ sukkavipÄkaį¹; bright deeds with bright results;
atthi, brÄhmaį¹a, kammaį¹ kaį¹hasukkaį¹ kaį¹hasukkavipÄkaį¹; dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results; and
atthi, brÄhmaį¹a, kammaį¹ akaį¹haasukkaį¹ akaį¹haasukkavipÄkaį¹ kammakkhayÄya saį¹vattati. neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds.

So sabyÄbajjhehi phassehi phuį¹į¹ho samÄno sabyÄbajjhaį¹ vedanaį¹ vediyati ekantadukkhaį¹, seyyathÄpi sattÄ nerayikÄ. Touched by hurtful contacts, they experience hurtful feelings that are exclusively painfulālike the beings in hell.
