ā€œCattārimāni, bhikkhave, kammāni mayā sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā paveditāni. ā€œMendicants, I declare these four kinds of deeds, having realized them with my own insight.

Katamāni cattāri? What four?

Atthi, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡haį¹ kaį¹‡havipākaį¹; There are dark deeds with dark results;

atthi, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ sukkaį¹ sukkavipākaį¹; bright deeds with bright results;

atthi, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkavipākaį¹; dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results; and

atthi, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkavipākaį¹ kammakkhayāya saį¹vattati. neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡haį¹ kaį¹‡havipākaį¹? And what are dark deeds with dark results?

Idha, bhikkhave, ekaccena mātā jÄ«vitā voropitā hoti, pitā jÄ«vitā voropito hoti, arahaį¹ jÄ«vitā voropito hoti, tathāgatassa duį¹­į¹­hena cittena lohitaį¹ uppāditaį¹ hoti, saį¹…gho bhinno hoti. Itā€™s when someone murders their mother or father or a perfected one. They maliciously shed the blood of a Realized One. Or they cause a schism in the Saį¹…gha.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡haį¹ kaį¹‡havipākaį¹. These are called dark deeds with dark results.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ sukkaį¹ sukkavipākaį¹? And what are bright deeds with bright results?

Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco pāį¹‡Ätipātā paį¹­ivirato hoti, adinnādānā paį¹­ivirato hoti, kāmesumicchācārā paį¹­ivirato hoti, musāvādā paį¹­ivirato hoti, pisuį¹‡Äya vācāya paį¹­ivirato hoti, pharusāya vācāya paį¹­ivirato hoti, samphappalāpā paį¹­ivirato hoti, anabhijjhālu hoti, abyāpannacitto hoti, sammādiį¹­į¹­hi hoti. Itā€™s when someone doesnā€™t kill living creatures, steal, or commit sexual misconduct. They donā€™t use speech thatā€™s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. And theyā€™re content, kind-hearted, with right view.

Idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ sukkaį¹ sukkavipākaį¹. These are called bright deeds with bright results.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkavipākaį¹? And what are dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results?

Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco sabyābajjhampi abyābajjhampi kāyasaį¹…khāraį¹ abhisaį¹…kharoti ā€¦peā€¦ idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkaį¹ kaį¹‡hasukkavipākaį¹. Itā€™s when someone makes both hurtful and pleasing choices by way of body, speech, and mind. These are called dark and bright deeds with dark and bright results.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkavipākaį¹ kammakkhayāya saį¹vattati? And what are neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds?

Tatra, bhikkhave, yamidaį¹ kammaį¹ kaį¹‡haį¹ kaį¹‡havipākaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, kammaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkaį¹ akaį¹‡haasukkavipākaį¹ kammakkhayāya saį¹vattati. Itā€™s the intention to give up dark deeds with dark results, bright deeds with bright results, and both dark and bright deeds with both dark and bright results. These are called neither dark nor bright deeds with neither dark nor bright results, which lead to the ending of deeds.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri kammāni mayā sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā paveditānÄ«ā€ti. These are the four kinds of deeds that I declare, having realized them with my own insight.ā€
