Tatiyahitasutta The Welfare of Neither
āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu neva attahitÄya paį¹ipanno hoti, no parahitÄya. āMendicants, a mendicant with five qualities is practicing neither for their own welfare, nor that of others.
Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu attanÄ na sÄ«lasampanno hoti, no paraį¹ sÄ«lasampadÄya samÄdapeti; Itās when a mendicant is not personally accomplished in ethics, immersion, wisdom, freedom, or the knowledge and vision of freedom. Nor do they encourage others in these qualities.
attanÄ na samÄdhisampanno hoti, no paraį¹ samÄdhisampadÄya samÄdapeti;
attanÄ na paƱƱÄsampanno hoti, no paraį¹ paƱƱÄsampadÄya samÄdapeti;
attanÄ na vimuttisampanno hoti, no paraį¹ vimuttisampadÄya samÄdapeti;
attanÄ na vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanasampanno hoti, no paraį¹ vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanasampadÄya samÄdapeti.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu neva attahitÄya paį¹ipanno hoti, no parahitÄyÄāti. A mendicant with these five qualities is practicing neither for their own welfare, nor that of others.ā
