KÄladÄnasutta Timely Gifts
āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, kÄladÄnÄni. āMendicants, there are these five timely gifts.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
Ägantukassa dÄnaį¹ deti; A gift to a visitor.
gamikassa dÄnaį¹ deti; A gift to someone setting out on a journey.
gilÄnassa dÄnaį¹ deti; A gift to someone who is sick.
dubbhikkhe dÄnaį¹ deti; A gift at a time of famine.
yÄni tÄni navasassÄni navaphalÄni tÄni paį¹hamaį¹ sÄ«lavantesu patiį¹į¹hÄpeti. Presenting the freshly harvested grains and fruits first to those who are ethical.
ImÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱca kÄladÄnÄnÄ«ti. These are the five timely gifts.
KÄle dadanti sappaƱƱÄ, The wise give at the right time,
vadaĆ±Ć±Å« vÄ«tamaccharÄ; being bountiful and rid of stinginess.
KÄlena dinnaį¹ ariyesu, A religious donation at the right time
ujubhÅ«tesu tÄdisu. to the noble ones, sincere and unaffected,
VippasannamanÄ tassa, given with a clear and confident mind,
vipulÄ hoti dakkhiį¹Ä; is indeed abundant.
Ye tattha anumodanti, Those who rejoice at that,
veyyÄvaccaį¹ karonti vÄ; or do other services,
Na tena dakkhiį¹Ä Å«nÄ, donāt miss out on the offering;
tepi puƱƱassa bhÄgino. they too have a share in the merit.
TasmÄ dade appaį¹ivÄnacitto, So you should give without holding back,
Yattha dinnaį¹ mahapphalaį¹; where a gift is very fruitful.
PuƱƱÄni paralokasmiį¹, The good deeds of sentient beings
Patiį¹į¹hÄ honti pÄį¹inanāti. support them in the next world.ā
