TatiyaanÄgatabhayasutta Future Perils (3rd)
āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, anÄgatabhayÄni etarahi asamuppannÄni Äyatiį¹ samuppajjissanti. āMendicants, these five future perils have not currently arisen, but they will arise in the future.
TÄni vo paį¹ibujjhitabbÄni; You should look out for them
paį¹ibujjhitvÄ ca tesaį¹ pahÄnÄya vÄyamitabbaį¹. and try to give them up.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
Bhavissanti, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« anÄgatamaddhÄnaį¹ abhÄvitakÄyÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaƱƱÄ. In a future time there will be mendicants who have not developed their physical endurance, ethics, mind, and wisdom.
Te abhÄvitakÄyÄ samÄnÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaĆ±Ć±Ä aƱƱe upasampÄdessanti. They will ordain others,
Tepi na sakkhissanti vinetuį¹ adhisÄ«le adhicitte adhipaƱƱÄya. but be unable to guide them in the higher ethics, mind, and wisdom.
Tepi bhavissanti abhÄvitakÄyÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaƱƱÄ. They too will not develop their physical endurance, ethics, mind, and wisdom.
Te abhÄvitakÄyÄ samÄnÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaĆ±Ć±Ä aƱƱe upasampÄdessanti. They too will ordain others,

Te abhÄvitakÄyÄ samÄnÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaĆ±Ć±Ä ye te suttantÄ tathÄgatabhÄsitÄ gambhÄ«rÄ gambhÄ«ratthÄ lokuttarÄ suƱƱatÄppaį¹isaį¹yuttÄ, tesu bhaƱƱamÄnesu na sussÅ«sissanti, na sotaį¹ odahissanti, na aĆ±Ć±Ä cittaį¹ upaį¹į¹hapessanti, na ca te dhamme uggahetabbaį¹ pariyÄpuį¹itabbaį¹ maƱƱissanti. When discourses spoken by the Realized Oneādeep, profound, transcendent, dealing with emptinessāare being recited they wonāt want to listen. They wonāt actively listen or try to understand, nor will they think those teachings are worth learning and memorizing.
Ye pana te suttantÄ kavitÄ kÄveyyÄ cittakkharÄ cittabyaƱjanÄ bÄhirakÄ sÄvakabhÄsitÄ, tesu bhaƱƱamÄnesu sussÅ«sissanti, sotaį¹ odahissanti, aĆ±Ć±Ä cittaį¹ upaį¹į¹hapessanti, te ca dhamme uggahetabbaį¹ pariyÄpuį¹itabbaį¹ maƱƱissanti. But when discourses composed by poetsāpoetry, with fancy words and phrases, composed by outsiders or spoken by disciplesāare being recited they will want to listen. Theyāll actively listen and try to understand, and theyāll think those teachings are worth learning and memorizing.

vinayasandosÄ dhammasandoso. and corrupt teachings come from corrupt training.

Puna caparaį¹, bhikkhave, bhavissanti bhikkhÅ« anÄgatamaddhÄnaį¹ abhÄvitakÄyÄ abhÄvitasÄ«lÄ abhÄvitacittÄ abhÄvitapaƱƱÄ. Furthermore, in a future time there will be mendicants who have not developed their physical endurance, ethics, mind, and wisdom.

gamÄ paviveke nikkhittadhurÄ, na vÄ«riyaį¹ Ärabhissanti appattassa pattiyÄ anadhigatassa adhigamÄya asacchikatassa sacchikiriyÄya. The senior mendicants will be indulgent and slack, leaders in backsliding, neglecting seclusion, not rousing energy for attaining the unattained, achieving the unachieved, and realizing the unrealized.
Tesaį¹ pacchimÄ janatÄ diį¹į¹hÄnugatiį¹ Äpajjissati. Those who come after them will follow their example.
SÄpi bhavissati bÄhulikÄ sÄthalikÄ okkamane pubbaį¹
gamÄ paviveke nikkhittadhurÄ, na vÄ«riyaį¹ Ärabhissati appattassa pattiyÄ anadhigatassa adhigamÄya asacchikatassa sacchikiriyÄya.
