ā€œPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu ānāpānassatiį¹ bhāvento nacirasseva akuppaį¹ paį¹­ivijjhati. ā€œMendicants, a mendicant developing mindfulness of breathing who has five things will soon penetrate the unshakable.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu appaį¹­į¹­ho hoti appakicco subharo susantoso jÄ«vitaparikkhāresu; Itā€™s when a mendicant has few requirements and duties, and is unburdensome and contented with lifeā€™s necessities.

appāhāro hoti anodarikattaį¹ anuyutto; They eat little, not devoted to filling their stomach.

appamiddho hoti jāgariyaį¹ anuyutto; They are rarely drowsy, and are dedicated to wakefulness.

yāyaį¹ kathā ābhisallekhikā cetovivaraį¹‡asappāyā, seyyathidaį¹ā€”They get to take part in talk about self-effacement that helps open the heart, when they want, without trouble or difficulty. That is,

appicchakathā ā€¦peā€¦ vimuttiƱāį¹‡adassanakathā, evarÅ«piyā kathāya nikāmalābhÄ« hoti akicchalābhÄ« akasiralābhÄ«; talk about fewness of wishes, contentment, seclusion, keeping your distance, arousing energy, ethics, immersion, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom.

yathāvimuttaį¹ cittaį¹ paccavekkhati. They review the extent of their mindā€™s freedom.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu ānāpānassatiį¹ bhāvento nacirasseva akuppaį¹ paį¹­ivijjhatÄ«ā€ti. A mendicant developing mindfulness of breathing who has these five things will soon penetrate the unshakable.ā€
