Dutiyaanāyussāsutta Longevity (2nd)

ā€œPaƱcime, bhikkhave, dhammā anāyussā. ā€œMendicants, these five things impede longevity.

Katame paƱca? What five?

AsappāyakārÄ« hoti, sappāye mattaį¹ na jānāti, apariį¹‡atabhojÄ« ca hoti, dussÄ«lo ca, pāpamitto ca. Doing what is unsuitable, not knowing moderation in what is suitable, eating food unfit for consumption, unethical behavior, and bad friends.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca dhammā anāyussā. These are the five things that impede longevity.

PaƱcime, bhikkhave, dhammā āyussā. These five things promote longevity.

Katame paƱca? What five?

SappāyakārÄ« hoti, sappāye mattaį¹ jānāti, pariį¹‡atabhojÄ« ca hoti, sÄ«lavā ca, kalyāį¹‡amitto ca. Doing what is suitable, knowing moderation in what is suitable, eating food fit for consumption, ethical conduct, and good friends.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca dhammā āyussāā€ti. These are the five things that promote longevity.ā€
