Byasanasutta Loss
āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, byasanÄni. āMendicants, there are these five losses.
KatamÄni paƱca? What five?
ĆÄtibyasanaį¹, bhogabyasanaį¹, rogabyasanaį¹, sÄ«labyasanaį¹, diį¹į¹hibyasanaį¹. Loss of relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view.
Na, bhikkhave, sattÄ Ć±Ätibyasanahetu vÄ bhogabyasanahetu vÄ rogabyasanahetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä apÄyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipÄtaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. It is not because of loss of relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.
SÄ«labyasanahetu vÄ, bhikkhave, sattÄ diį¹į¹hibyasanahetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä apÄyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipÄtaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of loss of ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.
ImÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱca byasanÄni. These are the five losses.
PaƱcimÄ, bhikkhave, sampadÄ. There are these five endowments.
KatamÄ paƱca? What five?
ĆÄtisampadÄ, bhogasampadÄ, ÄrogyasampadÄ, sÄ«lasampadÄ, diį¹į¹hisampadÄ. Endowment with relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view.
Na, bhikkhave, sattÄ Ć±ÄtisampadÄhetu vÄ bhogasampadÄhetu vÄ ÄrogyasampadÄhetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. It is not because of endowment with relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.
SÄ«lasampadÄhetu vÄ, bhikkhave, sattÄ diį¹į¹hisampadÄhetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of endowment with ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.
