Byasanasutta Loss

ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, byasanāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these five losses.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

Ƒātibyasanaį¹, bhogabyasanaį¹, rogabyasanaį¹, sÄ«labyasanaį¹, diį¹­į¹­hibyasanaį¹. Loss of relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view.

Na, bhikkhave, sattā Ʊātibyasanahetu vā bhogabyasanahetu vā rogabyasanahetu vā kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä apāyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipātaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. It is not because of loss of relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.

SÄ«labyasanahetu vā, bhikkhave, sattā diį¹­į¹­hibyasanahetu vā kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä apāyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipātaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of loss of ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱca byasanāni. These are the five losses.

PaƱcimā, bhikkhave, sampadā. There are these five endowments.

Katamā paƱca? What five?

Ƒātisampadā, bhogasampadā, ārogyasampadā, sÄ«lasampadā, diį¹­į¹­hisampadā. Endowment with relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view.

Na, bhikkhave, sattā Ʊātisampadāhetu vā bhogasampadāhetu vā ārogyasampadāhetu vā kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. It is not because of endowment with relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.

SÄ«lasampadāhetu vā, bhikkhave, sattā diį¹­į¹­hisampadāhetu vā kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of endowment with ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.

Imā kho, bhikkhave, paƱca sampadāā€ti. These are the five endowments.ā€

Dasamaį¹.

Gilānavaggo tatiyo.

Gilāno satisÅ«paį¹­į¹­hi,

Dve upaį¹­į¹­hākā duvāyusā;

Vapakāsasamaį¹‡asukhā,
