āPaƱcime, bhikkhave, dhammÄ saddhammassa sammosÄya antaradhÄnÄya saį¹vattanti. āMendicants, these five things lead to the decline and disappearance of the true teaching.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« na sakkaccaį¹ dhammaį¹ suį¹anti, na sakkaccaį¹ dhammaį¹ pariyÄpuį¹anti, na sakkaccaį¹ dhammaį¹ dhÄrenti, na sakkaccaį¹ dhÄtÄnaį¹ dhammÄnaį¹ atthaį¹ upaparikkhanti, na sakkaccaį¹ atthamaƱƱÄya dhammamaƱƱÄya dhammÄnudhammaį¹ paį¹ipajjanti. Itās when mendicants donāt carefully listen to the teachings, memorize them, and remember them. They donāt carefully examine the meaning of teachings that they remember. And they donāt carefully practice in line with the meaning and the teaching theyāve understood.
Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca dhammÄ saddhammassa sammosÄya antaradhÄnÄya saį¹vattanti. These five things lead to the decline and disappearance of the true teaching.
PaƱcime, bhikkhave, dhammÄ saddhammassa į¹hitiyÄ asammosÄya anantaradhÄnÄya saį¹vattanti. These five things lead to the continuation, persistence, and enduring of the true teaching.
