Sārajjasutta Timidity

ā€œPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu sārajjaį¹ okkanto hoti. ā€œMendicants, a mendicant with five qualities is overcome by timidity.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu assaddho hoti, dussÄ«lo hoti, appassuto hoti, kusÄ«to hoti, duppaƱƱo hoti. Itā€™s when a mendicant is faithless, unethical, with little learning, lazy, and witless.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu sārajjaį¹ okkanto hoti. A mendicant with these five qualities is overcome by timidity.

PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu visārado hoti. A mendicant with five qualities is self-assured.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu saddho hoti, sÄ«lavā hoti, bahussuto hoti, āraddhavÄ«riyo hoti, paƱƱavā hoti. Itā€™s when a mendicant is faithful, ethical, learned, energetic, and wise.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu visārado hotÄ«ā€ti. A mendicant with these five qualities is self-assured.ā€
