ā€œTaį¹ kiį¹ maƱƱatha, bhikkhave, ā€œWhat do you think, mendicants?

api nu tumhehi diį¹­į¹­haį¹ vā sutaį¹ vā: Have you ever seen or heard

ā€˜ayaį¹ puriso pāį¹‡Ätipātaį¹ pahāya pāį¹‡Ätipātā paį¹­iviratoti. of a person who has given up killing living creatures,

Tamenaį¹ rājāno gahetvā pāį¹‡Ätipātā veramaį¹‡ihetu hananti vā bandhanti vā pabbājenti vā yathāpaccayaį¹ vā karontÄ«ā€™ā€ti? and the kings have them arrested for that, and execute, imprison, or banish them, or do what the case requires?ā€

ā€œNo hetaį¹, bhanteā€. ā€œNo, sir.ā€

ā€œSādhu, bhikkhave. ā€œGood, mendicants!

Mayāpi kho etaį¹, bhikkhave, neva diį¹­į¹­haį¹ na sutaį¹: I too have never seen or heard of such a thing.

ā€˜ayaį¹ puriso pāį¹‡Ätipātaį¹ pahāya pāį¹‡Ätipātā paį¹­iviratoti.

Tamenaį¹ rājāno gahetvā pāį¹‡Ätipātā veramaį¹‡ihetu hananti vā bandhanti vā pabbājenti vā yathāpaccayaį¹ vā karontÄ«ā€™ti.

Api ca khvassa tatheva pāpakammaį¹ pavedenti: Rather, the kings are informed of someoneā€™s bad deed:

ā€˜ayaį¹ puriso itthiį¹ vā purisaį¹ vā jÄ«vitā voropesÄ«ti. ā€˜This person has murdered a man or a woman.ā€™

ayaį¹ puriso surāmerayamajjapamādaį¹­į¹­hānaį¹ anuyutto gāmā vā araƱƱā vā adinnaį¹ theyyasaį¹…khātaį¹ ādiyi; Or they stole something from a village or wilderness.
