ā€œYaį¹, bhikkhave, sÄ«lavanto pabbajitā kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamanti, tattha manussā paƱcahi į¹­hānehi bahuį¹ puƱƱaį¹ pasavanti. ā€œWhen ethical renunciates come to a family, the people create much merit for five reasons.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Yasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye sÄ«lavante pabbajite kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamante manussā disvā cittāni pasādenti, saggasaį¹vattanikaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹ kulaį¹ tasmiį¹ samaye paį¹­ipadaį¹ paį¹­ipannaį¹ hoti. When they see ethical renunciates coming to their family, the people bring up confidence in their hearts. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to heaven.

Yasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye sÄ«lavante pabbajite kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamante manussā paccuį¹­į¹­henti abhivādenti āsanaį¹ denti, uccākulÄ«nasaį¹vattanikaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹ kulaį¹ tasmiį¹ samaye paį¹­ipadaį¹ paį¹­ipannaį¹ hoti. When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people rise from their seats, bow down, and offer them a seat. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to a birth in an eminent family.

Yasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye sÄ«lavante pabbajite kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamante manussā maccheramalaį¹ paį¹­ivinenti, mahesakkhasaį¹vattanikaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹ kulaį¹ tasmiį¹ samaye paį¹­ipadaį¹ paį¹­ipannaį¹ hoti. When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people get rid of the stain of stinginess. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to being illustrious.

Yasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye sÄ«lavante pabbajite kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamante manussā yathāsatti yathābalaį¹ saį¹vibhajanti, mahābhogasaį¹vattanikaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹ kulaį¹ tasmiį¹ samaye paį¹­ipadaį¹ paį¹­ipannaį¹ hoti. When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people share what they have as best they can. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wealth.

Yasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye sÄ«lavante pabbajite kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamante manussā paripucchanti paripaƱhanti dhammaį¹ suį¹‡anti, mahāpaƱƱāsaį¹vattanikaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹ kulaį¹ tasmiį¹ samaye paį¹­ipadaį¹ paį¹­ipannaį¹ hoti. When ethical renunciates come to their family, the people ask questions and listen to the teachings. At that time the family is practicing a path leading to great wisdom.

Yaį¹, bhikkhave, sÄ«lavanto pabbajitā kulaį¹ upasaį¹…kamanti, tattha manussā imehi paƱcahi į¹­hānehi bahuį¹ puƱƱaį¹ pasavantÄ«ā€ti. When ethical renunciates come to a family, the people create much merit for these five reasons.ā€
