Dantakaį¹­į¹­hasutta Chew Sticks

ā€œPaƱcime, bhikkhave, ādÄ«navā dantakaį¹­į¹­hassa akhādane. ā€œMendicants, there are these five drawbacks of not using chew sticks.

Katame paƱca? What five?

Acakkhussaį¹, mukhaį¹ duggandhaį¹ hoti, rasaharaį¹‡iyo na visujjhanti, pittaį¹ semhaį¹ bhattaį¹ pariyonandhati, bhattamassa nacchādeti. Itā€™s not good for your eyes, you get bad breath, your taste-buds arenā€™t cleaned, bile and phlegm cover your food, and you lose your appetite.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca ādÄ«navā dantakaį¹­į¹­hassa akhādane. These are the five drawbacks of not using chew sticks.

PaƱcime, bhikkhave, ānisaį¹sā dantakaį¹­į¹­hassa khādane. There are these five benefits of using chew sticks.

Cakkhussaį¹, mukhaį¹ na duggandhaį¹ hoti, rasaharaį¹‡iyo visujjhanti, pittaį¹ semhaį¹ bhattaį¹ na pariyonandhati, bhattamassa chādeti. Itā€™s good for your eyes, you donā€™t get bad breath, your taste-buds are cleaned, bile and phlegm donā€™t cover your food, and food agrees with you.
