Dutiyaapāsādikasutta Unimpressive Conduct (2nd)

ā€œPaƱcime, bhikkhave, ādÄ«navā apāsādike. ā€œMendicants, there are these five drawbacks of unimpressive conduct.

Katame paƱca? What five?

Appasannā nappasÄ«danti, pasannānaƱca ekaccānaį¹ aƱƱathattaį¹ hoti, satthusāsanaį¹ akataį¹ hoti, pacchimā janatā diį¹­į¹­hānugatiį¹ āpajjati, cittamassa nappasÄ«dati. You donā€™t inspire confidence in those without it. You cause some with confidence to change their minds. You donā€™t follow the Teacherā€™s instructions. Those who come after you follow your example. And your mind doesnā€™t become clear.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca ādīnavā apāsādike. These are the five drawbacks of unimpressive conduct.

PaƱcime, bhikkhave, ānisaį¹sā pāsādike. There are these five benefits of impressive conduct.

Katame paƱca? What five?

Appasannā pasÄ«danti, pasannānaƱca bhiyyobhāvo hoti, satthusāsanaį¹ kataį¹ hoti, pacchimā janatā diį¹­į¹­hānugatiį¹ āpajjati, cittamassa pasÄ«dati. You inspire confidence in those without it. You increase confidence in those who have it. You follow the Teacherā€™s instructions. Those who come after you follow your example. And your mind becomes clear.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca ānisaį¹sā pāsādikeā€ti. These are the five benefits of impressive conduct.ā€
