Sobhanasutta Beautification
āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu ÄvÄsaį¹ sobheti. āMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities beautifies the monastery.
Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?
SÄ«lavÄ hoti ā¦peā¦ samÄdÄya sikkhati sikkhÄpadesu; Theyāre ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and resorting for alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules theyāve undertaken.
bahussuto hoti ā¦peā¦ diį¹į¹hiyÄ suppaį¹ividdhÄ; Theyāre very learned, remembering and keeping what theyāve learned. These teachings are good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, meaningful and well-phrased, describing a spiritual practice thatās totally full and pure. They are very learned in such teachings, remembering them, reciting them, mentally scrutinizing them, and comprehending them theoretically.
kalyÄį¹avÄco hoti kalyÄį¹avÄkkaraį¹o poriyÄ vÄcÄya samannÄgato vissaį¹į¹hÄya anelagalÄya atthassa viƱƱÄpaniyÄ; Theyāre a good speaker who enunciates well, with a polished, clear, and articulate voice that expresses the meaning.

kamante dhammiyÄ kathÄya sandassetuį¹ samÄdapetuį¹ samuttejetuį¹ sampahaį¹setuį¹; Theyāre able to educate, encourage, fire up, and inspire those who approach them with a Dhamma talk.
catunnaį¹ jhÄnÄnaį¹ ÄbhicetasikÄnaį¹ diį¹į¹hadhammasukhavihÄrÄnaį¹ nikÄmalÄbhÄ« hoti akicchalÄbhÄ« akasiralÄbhÄ«. They get the four absorptionsāblissful meditations in this life that belong to the higher mindāwhen they want, without trouble or difficulty.
