Dutiyaavaį¹‡į¹‡Ärahasutta Deserving Criticism (2nd)

ā€œPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. ā€œMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is cast down to hell.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā avaį¹‡į¹‡Ärahassa vaį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ bhāsati; Without examining or scrutinizing, they praise those deserving of criticism,

ananuvicca apariyogāhetvā vaį¹‡į¹‡Ärahassa avaį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ bhāsati; and they criticize those deserving of praise.

āvāsamaccharÄ« hoti āvāsapaligedhÄ«; Theyā€™re stingy and avaricious regarding monasteries.

kulamaccharÄ« hoti kulapaligedhÄ«; Theyā€™re stingy and avaricious regarding families.

saddhādeyyaį¹ vinipāteti. And they waste a gift given in faith.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is cast down to hell.

PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A resident mendicant with five qualities is raised up to heaven.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Anuvicca pariyogāhetvā avaį¹‡į¹‡Ärahassa avaį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ bhāsati; After examining and scrutinizing, they criticize those deserving of criticism,

anuvicca pariyogāhetvā vaį¹‡į¹‡Ärahassa vaį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ bhāsati; and they praise those deserving of praise.

na āvāsamaccharÄ« hoti na āvāsapaligedhÄ«; Theyā€™re not stingy and avaricious regarding monasteries.

na kulamaccharÄ« hoti na kulapaligedhÄ«; Theyā€™re not stingy and avaricious regarding families.

saddhādeyyaį¹ na vinipāteti. And they donā€™t waste a gift given in faith.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeā€ti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is raised up to heaven.ā€
