āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. āMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is cast down to hell.
Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?
Ananuvicca apariyogÄhetvÄ avaį¹į¹Ärahassa vaį¹į¹aį¹ bhÄsati; Without examining or scrutinizing, they praise those deserving of criticism,
ananuvicca apariyogÄhetvÄ vaį¹į¹Ärahassa avaį¹į¹aį¹ bhÄsati; and they criticize those deserving of praise.
ÄvÄsamaccharÄ« hoti ÄvÄsapaligedhÄ«; Theyāre stingy and avaricious regarding monasteries.
kulamaccharÄ« hoti kulapaligedhÄ«; Theyāre stingy and avaricious regarding families.
saddhÄdeyyaį¹ vinipÄteti. And they waste a gift given in faith.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is cast down to hell.
PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A resident mendicant with five qualities is raised up to heaven.

Anuvicca pariyogÄhetvÄ avaį¹į¹Ärahassa avaį¹į¹aį¹ bhÄsati; After examining and scrutinizing, they criticize those deserving of criticism,
anuvicca pariyogÄhetvÄ vaį¹į¹Ärahassa vaį¹į¹aį¹ bhÄsati; and they praise those deserving of praise.
na ÄvÄsamaccharÄ« hoti na ÄvÄsapaligedhÄ«; Theyāre not stingy and avaricious regarding monasteries.
na kulamaccharÄ« hoti na kulapaligedhÄ«; Theyāre not stingy and avaricious regarding families.
saddhÄdeyyaį¹ na vinipÄteti. And they donāt waste a gift given in faith.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeāti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is raised up to heaven.ā
