Paį¹­hamamacchariyasutta Stinginess (1st)

ā€œPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. ā€œMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is cast down to hell.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

ĀvāsamaccharÄ« hoti; Theyā€™re stingy regarding monasteries,

kulamaccharī hoti; families,

lābhamaccharī hoti; material things,

vaį¹‡į¹‡amaccharÄ« hoti; and praise.

saddhādeyyaį¹ vinipāteti. And they waste a gift given in faith.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is cast down to hell.

PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A resident mendicant with five qualities is raised up to heaven.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Na āvāsamaccharÄ« hoti; Theyā€™re not stingy regarding monasteries,

na kulamaccharī hoti; families,

na lābhamaccharī hoti; material things,

na vaį¹‡į¹‡amaccharÄ« hoti; and praise.

saddhādeyyaį¹ na vinipāteti. And they donā€™t waste a gift given in faith.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato āvāsiko bhikkhu yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeā€ti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is raised up to heaven.ā€
