āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. āMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is cast down to hell.
Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?
ÄvÄsamaccharÄ« hoti; Theyāre stingy regarding monasteries,
kulamaccharī hoti; families,
lÄbhamaccharÄ« hoti; material things,
vaį¹į¹amaccharÄ« hoti; and praise.
saddhÄdeyyaį¹ vinipÄteti. And they waste a gift given in faith.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is cast down to hell.
PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A resident mendicant with five qualities is raised up to heaven.
