Bhattuddesakasutta A Meal Designator

ā€œPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako na sammannitabbo. ā€œMendicants, a person with five qualities should not be appointed as meal designator.

Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?

Chandāgatiį¹ gacchati, dosāgatiį¹ gacchati, mohāgatiį¹ gacchati, bhayāgatiį¹ gacchati, uddiį¹­į¹­hānuddiį¹­į¹­haį¹ na jānāti. They make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. And they donā€™t know if a meal has been assigned or not.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako na sammannitabbo. A person with these five qualities should not be appointed as meal designator.

Na chandāgatiį¹ gacchati, na dosāgatiį¹ gacchati, na mohāgatiį¹ gacchati, na bhayāgatiį¹ gacchati, uddiį¹­į¹­hānuddiį¹­į¹­haį¹ jānāti. They donā€™t make decisions prejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. And they know if a meal has been assigned or not.

PaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhattuddesako sammato na pesetabbo ā€¦peā€¦ sammato pesetabbo ā€¦ bālo veditabbo ā€¦ paį¹‡įøito veditabbo ā€¦ khataį¹ upahataį¹ attānaį¹ pariharati ā€¦ akkhataį¹ anupahataį¹ attānaį¹ pariharati ā€¦ yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye ā€¦ yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. A person with five qualities who has been appointed as meal designator should not be called upon ā€¦ should be called upon ā€¦ should be known as a fool ā€¦ should be known as astute ā€¦ they keep themselves broken and damaged ā€¦ they keep themselves unbroken and undamaged ā€¦ is cast down to hell ā€¦ is raised up to heaven.
