Tatra kho ÄyasmÄ mahÄkaccÄno bhikkhÅ« Ämantesi: There MahÄkaccÄna addressed the mendicants:
āÄvuso bhikkhaveāti. āReverends, mendicants!ā
āÄvusoāti kho te bhikkhÅ« Äyasmato mahÄkaccÄnassa paccassosuį¹. āReverend,ā they replied.
ÄyasmÄ mahÄkaccÄno etadavoca: Venerable MahÄkaccÄna said this:
āacchariyaį¹, Ävuso; āItās incredible, reverends,
abbhutaį¹, Ävuso. itās amazing!
YÄvaƱcidaį¹ tena bhagavatÄ jÄnatÄ passatÄ arahatÄ sammÄsambuddhena sambÄdhe okÄsÄdhigamo anubuddho sattÄnaį¹ visuddhiyÄ sokaparidevÄnaį¹ samatikkamÄya dukkhadomanassÄnaį¹ atthaį¹
gamÄya ƱÄyassa adhigamÄya nibbÄnassa sacchikiriyÄya, yadidaį¹ cha anussatiį¹į¹hÄnÄni. How this Blessed One who knows and sees, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha, has found an opening amid confinement; that is, the six topics for recollection. They are in order to purify sentient beings, to get past sorrow and crying, to make an end of pain and sadness, to discover the system, and to realize extinguishment.

āitipi so bhagavÄ ā¦peā¦ satthÄ devamanussÄnaį¹ buddho bhagavÄāti. āThat Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those who wish to train, teacher of gods and humans, awakened, blessed.ā
Yasmiį¹, Ävuso, samaye ariyasÄvako tathÄgataį¹ anussarati nevassa tasmiį¹ samaye rÄgapariyuį¹į¹hitaį¹ cittaį¹ hoti, na dosapariyuį¹į¹hitaį¹ cittaį¹ hoti, na mohapariyuį¹į¹hitaį¹ cittaį¹ hoti; When a noble disciple recollects the Realized One their mind is not full of greed, hate, and delusion.
ujugatamevassa tasmiį¹ samaye cittaį¹ hoti, nikkhantaį¹ muttaį¹ vuį¹į¹hitaį¹ gedhamhÄ. At that time their mind is unswerving. Theyāve left behind greed; theyāre free of it and have risen above it.
āGedhoāti kho, Ävuso, paƱcannetaį¹ kÄmaguį¹Änaį¹ adhivacanaį¹. āGreedā is a term for the five kinds of sensual stimulation.
Sa kho so, Ävuso, ariyasÄvako sabbaso ÄkÄsasamena cetasÄ viharati vipulena mahaggatena appamÄį¹ena averena abyÄpajjena. That noble disciple meditates with a heart just like space, abundant, expansive, limitless, free of enmity and ill will.
Idampi kho, Ävuso, Ärammaį¹aį¹ karitvÄ evamāidhekacce sattÄ visuddhidhammÄ bhavanti. Relying on this, some sentient beings become pure in this way.
Puna caparaį¹, Ävuso, ariyasÄvako dhammaį¹ anussarati: Furthermore, a noble disciple recollects the teaching:
āsvÄkkhÄto bhagavatÄ dhammo ā¦peā¦ paccattaį¹ veditabbo viĆ±Ć±Å«hÄ«āti. āThe teaching is well explained by the Buddhaāapparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves.ā

gha of the Buddhaās disciples is practicing the way thatās good, direct, systematic, and proper. It consists of the four pairs, the eight individuals. This is the Saį¹
gha of the Buddhaās disciples that is worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and is the supreme field of merit for the world.ā

yÄcayogo dÄnasaį¹vibhÄgaratoāti. Among people full of the stain of stinginess I live at home rid of the stain of stinginess, freely generous, open-handed, loving to let go, committed to charity, loving to give and to share.ā

āsanti devÄ cÄtumahÄrÄjikÄ, santi devÄ ā¦peā¦ tatuttari. āThere are the gods of the four great kings, the gods of the thirty-three, the gods of Yama, the joyful gods, the gods who love to imagine, the gods who control what is imagined by others, the gods of the Divinityās host, and gods even higher than these.
YathÄrÅ«pÄya saddhÄya samannÄgatÄ tÄ devatÄ ito cutÄ tattha upapannÄ; mayhampi tathÄrÅ«pÄ saddhÄ saį¹vijjati. When those deities passed away from here, they were reborn there because of their faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom. I, too, have the same kind of faith, ethics, learning, generosity, and wisdom.ā
