Dutiyaaparihānasutta Non-decline (2nd)

ā€œImaį¹, bhikkhave, rattiį¹ aƱƱatarā devatā abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaį¹‡į¹‡Ä kevalakappaį¹ jetavanaį¹ obhāsetvā yenāhaį¹ tenupasaį¹…kami; upasaį¹…kamitvā maį¹ abhivādetvā ekamantaį¹ aį¹­į¹­hāsi. Ekamantaį¹ į¹­hitā kho, bhikkhave, sā devatā maį¹ etadavoca: ā€œTonight, a glorious deity, lighting up the entire Jetaā€™s Grove, came to me, bowed, stood to one side, and said to me:

ā€˜chayime, bhante, dhammā bhikkhuno aparihānāya saį¹vattanti. ā€˜Sir, these six things donā€™t lead to the decline of a mendicant.

Katame cha? What six?

Satthugāravatā, dhammagāravatā, saį¹…ghagāravatā, sikkhāgāravatā, hirigāravatā, ottappagāravatāā€”Respect for the Teacher, for the teaching, for the Saį¹…gha, for the training, for conscience, and for prudence.

ime kho, bhante, cha dhammā bhikkhuno aparihānāya saį¹vattantÄ«ā€™ti. These six things donā€™t lead to the decline of a mendicant.ā€™

Idamavoca, bhikkhave, sā devatā. That is what that deity said.

Idaį¹ vatvā maį¹ abhivādetvā padakkhiį¹‡aį¹ katvā tatthevantaradhāyÄ«ti. Then he bowed and respectfully circled me, keeping me on his right side, before vanishing right there.

Satthugaru dhammagaru, One respectful of the Teacher and the teaching,

saį¹…ghe ca tibbagāravo; keenly respecting the Saį¹…gha;

Hiriottappasampanno, endowed with conscience and prudence,

sappatisso sagāravo; reverential and respectfulā€”

Abhabbo parihānāya, it is impossible for them to decline;

nibbānasseva santikeā€ti. they have drawn near to extinguishment.ā€
