Paį¹hamatajjhÄnasutta First Absorption (1st)
āCha, bhikkhave, dhamme appahÄya abhabbo paį¹hamaį¹ jhÄnaį¹ upasampajja viharituį¹. āMendicants, without giving up these six qualities you canāt enter and remain in the first absorption.
Katame cha? What six?
KÄmacchandaį¹, byÄpÄdaį¹, thinamiddhaį¹, uddhaccakukkuccaį¹, vicikicchaį¹. Desire for sensual pleasures, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt.
KÄmesu kho panassa ÄdÄ«navo na yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya sudiį¹į¹ho hoti. And the drawbacks of sensual pleasures have not been truly seen clearly with right wisdom.
Ime kho, bhikkhave, cha dhamme appahÄya abhabbo paį¹hamaį¹ jhÄnaį¹ upasampajja viharituį¹. Without giving up these six qualities you canāt enter and remain in the first absorption.
Cha, bhikkhave, dhamme pahÄya bhabbo paį¹hamaį¹ jhÄnaį¹ upasampajja viharituį¹. But after giving up these six qualities you can enter and remain in the first absorption.
