Adhigamasutta Achievement

ā€œChahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu abhabbo anadhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ adhigantuį¹, adhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ phātiį¹ kātuį¹. ā€œMendicants, a mendicant who has six qualities is unable to acquire more skillful qualities or to increase the skillful qualities theyā€™ve already acquired.

Katamehi chahi? What six?

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu na āyakusalo ca hoti, na apāyakusalo ca hoti, na upāyakusalo ca hoti, anadhigatānaį¹ kusalānaį¹ dhammānaį¹ adhigamāya na chandaį¹ janeti, adhigate kusale dhamme na ārakkhati, sātaccakiriyāya na sampādeti. Itā€™s when a mendicant is not skilled in progress, skilled in regress, or skilled in means. They donā€™t generate enthusiasm to achieve skillful qualities not yet achieved. They donā€™t protect skillful qualities they have achieved. And they donā€™t try to persevere in the task.

Imehi kho, bhikkhave, chahi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu abhabbo anadhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ adhigantuį¹, adhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ phātiį¹ kātuį¹. A mendicant who has these six qualities is unable to acquire more skillful qualities or to increase the skillful qualities theyā€™ve already acquired.

Chahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu bhabbo anadhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ adhigantuį¹, adhigataį¹ vā kusalaį¹ dhammaį¹ phātiį¹ kātuį¹. A mendicant who has six qualities is able to acquire more skillful qualities or to increase the skillful qualities theyā€™ve already acquired.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu āyakusalo ca hoti, apāyakusalo ca hoti, upāyakusalo ca hoti, anadhigatānaį¹ kusalānaį¹ dhammānaį¹ adhigamāya chandaį¹ janeti, adhigate kusale dhamme ārakkhati, sātaccakiriyāya sampādeti. Itā€™s when a mendicant is skilled in progress, skilled in regress, and skilled in means. They generate enthusiasm to achieve skillful qualities not yet achieved. They protect skillful qualities they have achieved. And they try to persevere in the task.
