Aratisutta Discontent
āTayome, bhikkhave, dhammÄ. āMendicants, there are these three things.
Katame tayo? What three?
Arati, vihiį¹sÄ, adhammacariyÄ. Discontent, cruelty, and unprincipled conduct.
Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo dhammÄ. These are the three things.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹į¹aį¹ dhammÄnaį¹ pahÄnÄya tayo dhammÄ bhÄvetabbÄ. To give up these three things you should develop three things.
Katame tayo? What three?
AratiyÄ pahÄnÄya muditÄ bhÄvetabbÄ, vihiį¹sÄya pahÄnÄya avihiį¹sÄ bhÄvetabbÄ, adhammacariyÄya pahÄnÄya dhammacariyÄ bhÄvetabbÄ. You should develop rejoicing to give up discontent, harmlessness to give up cruelty, and principled conduct to give up unprincipled conduct.
Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹į¹aį¹ dhammÄnaį¹ pahÄnÄya ime tayo dhammÄ bhÄvetabbÄāti. These are the three things you should develop to give up those three things.ā
