Aratisutta Discontent

ā€œTayome, bhikkhave, dhammā. ā€œMendicants, there are these three things.

Katame tayo? What three?

Arati, vihiį¹sā, adhammacariyā. Discontent, cruelty, and unprincipled conduct.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo dhammā. These are the three things.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ dhammānaį¹ pahānāya tayo dhammā bhāvetabbā. To give up these three things you should develop three things.

Katame tayo? What three?

Aratiyā pahānāya muditā bhāvetabbā, vihiį¹sāya pahānāya avihiį¹sā bhāvetabbā, adhammacariyāya pahānāya dhammacariyā bhāvetabbā. You should develop rejoicing to give up discontent, harmlessness to give up cruelty, and principled conduct to give up unprincipled conduct.

Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ dhammānaį¹ pahānāya ime tayo dhammā bhāvetabbāā€ti. These are the three things you should develop to give up those three things.ā€
