Kāyānupassīsutta Observing the Body

ā€œCha, bhikkhave, dhamme appahāya abhabbo kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharituį¹. ā€œMendicants, without giving up these six qualities you canā€™t meditate observing an aspect of the body.

Katame cha? What six?

Kammārāmataį¹, bhassārāmataį¹, niddārāmataį¹, saį¹…gaį¹‡ikārāmataį¹, indriyesu aguttadvārataį¹, bhojane amattaƱƱutaį¹. Relishing work, talk, sleep, and company, not guarding the sense doors, and eating too much.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, cha dhamme appahāya abhabbo kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharituį¹. Without giving up these six qualities you canā€™t meditate observing an aspect of the body.

Cha, bhikkhave, dhamme pahāya bhabbo kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharituį¹. But after giving up these six qualities you can meditate observing an aspect of the body.
