Pahānasutta Giving Up

ā€œSattannaį¹, bhikkhave, saį¹yojanānaį¹ pahānāya samucchedāya brahmacariyaį¹ vussati. ā€œMendicants, the spiritual life is lived to give up and cut out these seven fetters.

Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno anunayasaį¹yojanaį¹ pahÄ«naį¹ hoti ucchinnamÅ«laį¹ tālāvatthukataį¹ anabhāvaį¹…kataį¹ āyatiį¹ anuppādadhammaį¹. When a mendicant has given up the fetters of attraction, repulsion, views, doubt, conceit, desire to be reborn, and ignoranceā€”cut them off at the root, made them like a palm stump, obliterated them, so they are unable to arise in the futureā€”

Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, bhikkhu acchecchi taį¹‡haį¹, vivattayi saį¹yojanaį¹, sammā mānābhisamayā antamakāsi dukkhassāā€ti. theyā€™re called a mendicant who has cut off craving, untied the fetters, and by rightly comprehending conceit has made an end of suffering.ā€
