āSatta vo, bhikkhave, aparihÄniye dhamme desessÄmi. āMendicants, I will teach you seven principles that prevent decline.
Taį¹ suį¹Ätha, sÄdhukaį¹ manasi karotha ā¦peā¦ Listen and apply your mind well ā¦
katame ca, bhikkhave, satta aparihÄniyÄ dhammÄ? And what are the seven principles that prevent decline?
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« na kammÄrÄmÄ bhavissanti, na kammaratÄ, na kammÄrÄmataį¹ anuyuttÄ; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄni. As long as the mendicants donāt relish work, loving it and liking to relish it, they can expect growth, not decline.
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« na bhassÄrÄmÄ bhavissanti ā¦peā¦ As long as they donāt enjoy talk ā¦
na niddÄrÄmÄ bhavissanti ā¦ sleep ā¦

gaį¹ikÄrÄmÄ bhavissanti ā¦ company ā¦
na pÄpicchÄ bhavissanti na pÄpikÄnaį¹ icchÄnaį¹ vasaį¹ gatÄ ā¦ they donāt have corrupt wishes, falling under the sway of corrupt wishes ā¦
na pÄpamittÄ bhavissanti na pÄpasahÄyÄ na pÄpasampavaį¹
kÄ ā¦ they donāt have bad friends, companions, and associates ā¦
na oramattakena visesÄdhigamena antarÄvosÄnaį¹ Äpajjissanti; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄni. they donāt stop half-way after achieving some insignificant distinction, they can expect growth, not decline.
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, ime satta aparihÄniyÄ dhammÄ bhikkhÅ«su į¹hassanti, imesu ca sattasu aparihÄniyesu dhammesu bhikkhÅ« sandississanti; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄnÄ«āti. As long as these seven principles that prevent decline last among the mendicants, and as long as the mendicants are seen following them, they can expect growth, not decline.ā
