āSatta vo, bhikkhave, aparihÄniye dhamme desessÄmi. āMendicants, I will teach you seven principles that prevent decline.

katame ca, bhikkhave, satta aparihÄniyÄ dhammÄ? And what are the seven principles that prevent decline?
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« saddhÄ bhavissanti; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄni. As long as the mendicants are faithful ā¦
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« hirimanto bhavissanti ā¦peā¦ conscientious ā¦
ottappino bhavissanti ā¦ prudent ā¦
bahussutÄ bhavissanti ā¦ learned ā¦
ÄraddhavÄ«riyÄ bhavissanti ā¦ energetic ā¦
satimanto bhavissanti ā¦ mindful ā¦
paƱƱavanto bhavissanti; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄni. wise, they can expect growth, not decline.
YÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, ime satta aparihÄniyÄ dhammÄ bhikkhÅ«su į¹hassanti, imesu ca sattasu aparihÄniyesu dhammesu bhikkhÅ« sandississanti; vuddhiyeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ«naį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khÄ, no parihÄnÄ«āti. As long as these seven principles that prevent decline last among the mendicants, and as long as the mendicants are seen following them, they can expect growth, not decline.ā
