Tatiyavinayadharasutta An Expert in the Monastic Law (3rd)
āSattahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu vinayadharo hoti. āMendicants, a mendicant with seven qualities is an expert in the monastic law.
Katamehi sattahi? What seven?
Äpattiį¹ jÄnÄti, They know what is an offense.
anÄpattiį¹ jÄnÄti, They know what is not an offense.
lahukaį¹ Äpattiį¹ jÄnÄti, They know what is a light offense.
garukaį¹ Äpattiį¹ jÄnÄti, They know what is a serious offense.
vinaye kho pana į¹hito hoti asaį¹hÄ«ro, Theyāre firm and unfaltering in the training.
catunnaį¹ jhÄnÄnaį¹ ÄbhicetasikÄnaį¹ diį¹į¹hadhammasukhavihÄrÄnaį¹ nikÄmalÄbhÄ« hoti akicchalÄbhÄ« akasiralÄbhÄ«, They get the four absorptionsāblissful meditations in this life that belong to the higher mindāwhen they want, without trouble or difficulty.
ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati. They realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, sattahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu vinayadharo hotÄ«āti. A mendicant with these seven qualities is an expert in the monastic law.ā
