Malasutta Stains
āAį¹į¹himÄni, bhikkhave, malÄni. āMendicants, there are these eight stains.
KatamÄni aį¹į¹ha? What eight?
AsajjhÄyamalÄ, bhikkhave, mantÄ; Not reciting is the stain of hymns.
anuį¹į¹hÄnamalÄ, bhikkhave, gharÄ; Neglect is the stain of houses.
malaį¹, bhikkhave, vaį¹į¹assa kosajjaį¹; Laziness is the stain of beauty.
pamÄdo, bhikkhave, rakkhato malaį¹; Negligence is a guardās stain.
malaį¹, bhikkhave, itthiyÄ duccaritaį¹; Misconduct is a womanās stain.
maccheraį¹, bhikkhave, dadato malaį¹; Stinginess is a giverās stain.
malÄ, bhikkhave, pÄpakÄ akusalÄ dhammÄ asmiį¹ loke paramhi ca; Bad, unskillful qualities are a stain in this world and the next.
tato, bhikkhave, malÄ malataraį¹ avijjÄ paramaį¹ malaį¹. Worse than any of these is ignorance, the worst stain of all.
ImÄni kho, bhikkhave, aį¹į¹ha malÄnÄ«ti. These are the eight stains.
