gasamannÄgate, bhikkhave, khette bÄ«jaį¹ vuttaį¹ na mahapphalaį¹ hoti na mahassÄdaį¹ na phÄtiseyyaį¹. āMendicants, when a field has eight factors a seed sown in it is not very fruitful or rewarding or productive.

gasamannÄgate? What eight factors does it have?
Idha, bhikkhave, khettaį¹ unnÄmaninnÄmi ca hoti, pÄsÄį¹asakkharikaƱca hoti, Å«saraƱca hoti, na ca gambhÄ«rasitaį¹ hoti, na Äyasampannaį¹ hoti, na apÄyasampannaį¹ hoti, na mÄtikÄsampannaį¹ hoti, na mariyÄdasampannaį¹ hoti. Itās when a field has mounds and ditches. It has stones and gravel. Itās salty. It doesnāt have deep furrows. And itās not equipped with water inlets, water outlets, irrigation channels, and boundaries.

kappÄ, micchÄvÄcÄ, micchÄkammantÄ, micchÄÄjÄ«vÄ, micchÄvÄyÄmÄ, micchÄsatino, micchÄsamÄdhino. Itās when an ascetic or brahmin has wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong immersion.

kappÄ, sammÄvÄcÄ, sammÄkammantÄ, sammÄÄjÄ«vÄ, sammÄvÄyÄmÄ, sammÄsatino, sammÄsamÄdhino. Itās when an ascetic or brahmin has right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.

YathÄpi khette sampanne, When the field is excellent,
pavuttÄ bÄ«jasampadÄ; and the seed sown in it is excellent,
Deve sampÄdayantamhi, and the rainfall is excellent,
hoti dhaƱƱassa sampadÄ. the crop of grain will be excellent.
AnÄ«tisampadÄ hoti, The absence of crop loss is excellent,
virÅ«įø·hÄ« bhavati sampadÄ; its growth is excellent,
VepullasampadÄ hoti, its maturation is excellent,
phalaį¹ ve hoti sampadÄ. and its fruit is excellent.
Evaį¹ sampannasÄ«lesu, So too, when you give excellent food
dinnÄ bhojanasampadÄ; to those of excellent ethics,
SampadÄnaį¹ upaneti, it leads to many excellences,
sampannaį¹ hissa taį¹ kataį¹. for what you did was excellent.
TasmÄ sampadamÄkaį¹
khī, So if a person wants excellence,
sampannatthūdha puggalo; let them excel in this.
SampannapaƱƱe sevetha, You should frequent those with excellent wisdom,
evaį¹ ijjhanti sampadÄ. so that your own excellence will flourish.
VijjÄcaraį¹asampanne, Excelling in knowledge and conduct,
laddhÄ cittassa sampadaį¹; and having excellence of mind,
Karoti kammasampadaį¹, you perform excellent deeds,
labhati catthasampadaį¹. and gain excellent benefits.
Lokaį¹ ƱatvÄ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹, Truly knowing the world,
pappuyya diį¹į¹hisampadaį¹; and having attained excellence of view,
MaggasampadamÄgamma, one who excels in mind proceeds,
yÄti sampannamÄnaso. relying on excellence in the path.
OdhunitvÄ malaį¹ sabbaį¹, Shaking off all stains,
patvÄ nibbÄnasampadaį¹; and attaining the excellence of extinguishment,
Muccati sabbadukkhehi, youāre freed from all sufferings:
sÄ hoti sabbasampadÄāti. this is complete excellence.ā
