Sappurisadānasutta Gifts of a True Person

ā€œAį¹­į¹­himāni, bhikkhave, sappurisadānāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these eight gifts of a true person.

Katamāni aį¹­į¹­ha? What eight?

Suciį¹ deti, paį¹‡Ä«taį¹ deti, kālena deti, kappiyaį¹ deti, viceyya deti, abhiį¹‡haį¹ deti, dadaį¹ cittaį¹ pasādeti, datvā attamano hoti. Their gift is pure, good quality, timely, appropriate, intelligent, and regular. While giving their heart is confident, and afterwards theyā€™re uplifted.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, aį¹­į¹­ha sappurisadānānÄ«ti. These are the eight gifts of a true person.

Suciį¹ paį¹‡Ä«taį¹ kālena, He gives pure, good quality, and timely gifts

kappiyaį¹ pānabhojanaį¹; of appropriate food and drinks

Abhiį¹‡haį¹ dadāti dānaį¹, regularly to spiritual practitioners

sukhettesu brahmacārisu. who are fertile fields of merit.

Neva vippaį¹­isārissa, They never regret

cajitvā āmisaį¹ bahuį¹; giving away many things of the flesh.

Evaį¹ dinnāni dānāni, Discerning people praise

vaį¹‡į¹‡ayanti vipassino. giving such gifts.

Evaį¹ yajitvā medhāvÄ«, An intelligent person sacrifices like this,

saddho muttena cetasā; faithful, with a mind of letting go.

Abyābajjhaį¹ sukhaį¹ lokaį¹, Such an astute person is reborn

paį¹‡įøito upapajjatÄ«ā€ti. in a happy, pleasing world.ā€
