Paį¹­hamapuggalasutta Eight People (1st)

ā€œAį¹­į¹­hime, bhikkhave, puggalā āhuneyyā pāhuneyyā dakkhiį¹‡eyyā aƱjalikaraį¹‡Ä«yā anuttaraį¹ puƱƱakkhettaį¹ lokassa? ā€œMendicants, these eight people are worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and are the supreme field of merit for the world.

Katame aį¹­į¹­ha? What eight?

Sotāpanno, sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, sakadāgāmÄ«, sakadāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, anāgāmÄ«, anāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, arahā, arahattāya paį¹­ipanno. The stream-enterer and the one practicing to realize the fruit of stream-entry. The once-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of once-return. The non-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of non-return. The perfected one, and the one practicing for perfection.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, aį¹­į¹­ha puggalā āhuneyyā ā€¦peā€¦ anuttaraį¹ puƱƱakkhettaį¹ lokassāti. These are the eight people who are worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and are the supreme field of merit for the world.

Cattāro ca paį¹­ipannā, Four practicing the path,

cattāro ca phale į¹­hitā; and four established in the fruit.

Esa saį¹…gho ujubhÅ«to, This is the sincere Saį¹…gha,

paƱƱāsīlasamāhito. with wisdom, ethics, and immersion.

Yajamānānaį¹ manussānaį¹, For humans, those merit-seeking creatures,

PuƱƱapekkhāna pāį¹‡inaį¹; who sponsor sacrifices,

Karotaį¹ opadhikaį¹ puƱƱaį¹, making worldly merit,

Saį¹…ghe dinnaį¹ mahapphalanā€ti. what is given to the Saį¹…gha is very fruitful.ā€
