Sandiį¹­į¹­hikadhammasutta In the Present Life

ā€œā€˜Sandiį¹­į¹­hiko dhammo, sandiį¹­į¹­hiko dhammoā€™ti, āvuso, vuccati. ā€œReverend, they speak of ā€˜a teaching apparent in the present lifeā€™.

Kittāvatā nu kho, āvuso, sandiį¹­į¹­hiko dhammo vutto bhagavatāā€ti? In what way did the Buddha speak of a teaching apparent in the present life?ā€

ā€œIdhāvuso, bhikkhu vivicceva kāmehi ā€¦peā€¦ paį¹­hamaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. ā€œFirst, take a mendicant who, quite secluded from sensual pleasures ā€¦ enters and remains in the first absorption.

Ettāvatāpi kho, āvuso, sandiį¹­į¹­hiko dhammo vutto bhagavatā pariyāyena ā€¦peā€¦. To this extent the Buddha spoke of the teaching apparent in the present life in a qualified sense. ā€¦

Puna caparaį¹, āvuso, bhikkhu sabbaso nevasaƱƱānāsaƱƱāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma saƱƱāvedayitanirodhaį¹ upasampajja viharati, paƱƱāya cassa disvā āsavā parikkhÄ«į¹‡Ä honti. Furthermore, take a mendicant who, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and remains in the cessation of perception and feeling. And, having seen with wisdom, their defilements come to an end.

Ettāvatāpi kho, āvuso, sandiį¹­į¹­hiko dhammo vutto bhagavatā nippariyāyenāā€ti. To this extent the Buddha spoke of the teaching apparent in the present life in a definitive sense.ā€
