Samaį¹‡asaƱƱāsutta Perceptions for Ascetics

ā€œTisso imā, bhikkhave, samaį¹‡asaƱƱā bhāvitā bahulÄ«katā satta dhamme paripÅ«renti. ā€œMendicants, when these three perceptions for ascetics are developed and cultivated they fulfill seven things.

Katamā tisso? What three?

Vevaį¹‡į¹‡iyamhi ajjhupagato, parapaį¹­ibaddhā me jÄ«vikā, aƱƱo me ākappo karaį¹‡Ä«yotiā€”ā€˜I have secured freedom from class.ā€™ ā€˜My livelihood is tied up with others.ā€™ ā€˜My behavior should be different.ā€™

imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso samaį¹‡asaƱƱā bhāvitā bahulÄ«katā satta dhamme paripÅ«renti. When these three perceptions for ascetics are developed and cultivated they fulfill seven things.

Katame satta? What seven?

SantatakārÄ« hoti santatavutti sÄ«lesu, anabhijjhālu hoti, abyāpajjo hoti, anatimānÄ« hoti, sikkhākāmo hoti, ā€œidamatthanā€tissa hoti jÄ«vitaparikkhāresu, āraddhavÄ«riyo ca viharati. Their deeds and behavior are always consistent with the precepts. Theyā€™re content, kind-hearted, and humble. They want to train. They use the necessities of life after reflecting on their purpose. Theyā€™re energetic.

Imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso samaį¹‡asaƱƱā bhāvitā bahulÄ«katā ime satta dhamme paripÅ«rentÄ«ā€ti. When those three perceptions for ascetics are developed and cultivated they fulfill these seven things.ā€
