ā€œTikicchakā, bhikkhave, virecanaį¹ denti pittasamuį¹į¹hānānampi ābādhānaį¹ paį¹ighātāya, semhasamuį¹į¹hānānampi ābādhānaį¹ paį¹ighātāya, vātasamuį¹į¹hānānampi ābādhānaį¹ paį¹ighātāya. ā€œMendicants, doctors prescribe a purgative for eliminating illnesses stemming from disorders of bile, phlegm, and wind.

Atthetaį¹, bhikkhave, virecanaį¹; ā€˜netaį¹ natthÄ«ā€™ti vadāmi. There is such a purgative, I donā€™t deny it.

TaƱca kho etaį¹, bhikkhave, virecanaį¹ sampajjatipi vipajjatipi. But this kind of purgative sometimes works and sometimes fails.

AhaƱca kho, bhikkhave, ariyaį¹ virecanaį¹ desessāmi, yaį¹ virecanaį¹ sampajjatiyeva no vipajjati, yaį¹ virecanaį¹ āgamma jātidhammā sattā jātiyā parimuccanti, jarādhammā sattā jarāya parimuccanti, maraį¹‡adhammā sattā maraį¹‡ena parimuccanti, sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsadhammā sattā sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupāyāsehi parimuccanti. I will teach a noble purgative that works without fail. Relying on that purgative, sentient beings who are liable to rebirth, old age, and death, to sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress are freed from all these things.

Taį¹ suį¹‡Ätha, sādhukaį¹ manasi karotha, bhāsissāmÄ«ā€ti. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.ā€

Bhagavā etadavoca: The Buddha said this:
