Paį¹­hamaasekhasutta An Adept (1st)

Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami; upasaį¹…kamitvā bhagavantaį¹ abhivādetvā ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:

ā€œā€˜Asekho asekhoā€™ti, bhante, vuccati. ā€œSir, they speak of this person called ā€˜an adeptā€™.

Kittāvatā bhante, bhikkhu asekho hotÄ«ā€ti? How is an adept mendicant defined?ā€

ā€œIdha, bhikkhu, bhikkhu asekhāya sammādiį¹­į¹­hiyā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāsaį¹…kappena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāvācāya samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammākammantena samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāājÄ«vena samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāvāyāmena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāsatiyā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāsamādhinā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāƱāį¹‡ena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāvimuttiyā samannāgato hoti. ā€œMendicant, itā€™s when a mendicant has an adeptā€™s right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right immersion, right knowledge, and right freedom.

Evaį¹ kho, bhikkhu, bhikkhu asekho hotÄ«ā€ti. Thatā€™s how a mendicant is an adept.ā€
